아이 성장기록, 어떻게 남기세요? (조카의 스크랩북)으로 살펴본 유년기 성장일기

아이들은 정말 눈 깜짝할 사이에 자란다. 어린 시절 내가 가는 곳은 어디든 화장실 앞까지라도 졸졸 따라다니던 조카가 벌써 고3이 되었다. 함께 놀며 쌓아온 정이 지금까지 이어지고 있다는 사실이 얼마나 고마운지 모른다. 오늘도 가족 단톡방에 “고모, 오늘은 저녁에 카레 먹었어요. 굿 나잇!”이라는 메시지와 함께 사진 두 장이 올라왔다.

그러다 문득, 조카가 초등학교를 졸업하면서 학교 영어 과제로 만들었던 “MY SCRAPBOOK”이 떠올랐다. 잘 보관해둔 그 스크랩북을 꺼내 펼쳐보니, 아이의 순수하고 솔직한 마음이 고스란히 담겨 있었다. 기억하지 못하는 순간들은 엄마 아빠(동생 부부)에게 물어가며 일일이 기록했다 한다. 어린 아이의 세심한 정성과 마음이 페이지마다 묻어났다.

한 장 한 장 넘기며 조카의 유년 시절로 거슬러 올라가다 보니, 그때의 순수함과 따뜻함이 전해져 온다. 필사하듯 한 글자 한 글자에 정성을 담아 다시금 옮겨 적어본다.

THE DAY I WAS BORN!!

That was a day I gave birth to my parents! My eyes are black, ears, nose, lips... I'm natural birth. I opened my eyes, I was surrounded by my dad. (Cause I got out from my mom's belly), nurses, doctors... I had two strings of hair on my head and my head is round-shaped. My legs and arms are very chubby! I cried very loudly so the nurse put on the blanket and made me drink some milk. I'm toothless so I just ate babyfood everyday. It made me feel boring!

내가 태어난 날!!

그날은 내가 엄마 아빠 품에 처음 안긴 날이다. 내 눈동자는 까맣고, 귀랑, 입, 코도 있었다. 나는 자연분만으로 태어났다. 처음 눈을 떴을 때 아빠가 보였다. (왜냐면, 나는 엄마 뱃속에서 나왔으니까!) 곁엔 간호사 선생님이랑 의사 선생도 계셨다. 나는 머리카락이 두 가닥 정도 나 있었고, 머리 모양은 동글동글했다. 팔이랑 다리는 오동통했다. 내가 너무 크게 울어서 간호사 선생님이 담요도 덮어주시고, 우유도 먹여주셨다. 얼마 동안 아직 이가 없어서 이유식만 먹었는데, 맨날 그것만 먹으니까 좀 심심했다!

My first steps

I could crawl when I’m 6-months-old and I’m tried to walk. My parents held my hands and I did my first steps. It was so amazing! But I had also fall down many times that made me even scars on my legs. I remembered in one day, I was so excited when I saw a gorgeous toy in the store then I just ran to it, that was the first day that I could run too. My parents let me walk freely after that time. But immediately I still…

첫걸음마

6개월쯤 되었을 때 나는 기어 다닐 수 있었고, 걷기에도 도전했다. 엄마 아빠가 내 손을 잡아주었고, 나는 생애 첫걸음을 내디뎠다! 정말 신기했다. 물론 자주 넘어졌고, 다리에 상처도 났다. 어느 날, 가게에서 멋진 장난감을 보고 너무 신나서 그냥 달려간 기억이 난다. 그날은 내가 처음으로 뛰기도 한 날이었다. 그날부터 엄마 아빠는 내가 혼자서 자유롭게 걷도록 해주셨다. 하지만 바로 또... (넘어졌다.)

First birthday party

Our home was full of candies, snacks and drinks, also with a big cake. In the evening, we had the dinner earlier than all the past evenings, in that time I still didn’t know the reason why. Then I went and took a shower with my dad. When I went out of the bathroom, all the lights were turned off. Then my parents with the cake on their hands. After the song, I ate the piece of cake my hands were held by my dad. Then I ate it. The cake was so delicious. I also got a present from my first parents and that’s a nipple!

첫 번째 생일 파티

집에 사탕, 과자, 음료수, 그리고 커다란 케이크가 잔뜩 있었다. 저녁에는 평소보다 일찍  밥을 먹었는데, 왜 그런지 그때는 몰랐다. 아빠랑 같이 샤워를 하고 나왔는데, 갑자기 집안 불이 모두 꺼졌다! 그리고 엄마 아빠가 케이크를 들고 나타났다. 생일 축하 노래를 부르고, 아빠가 내 손을 잡아 케이크 한 조각을 주셨다. 그 케이크는 정말 맛있었고, 나는 생애 첫 선물도 받았다. 그건 바로 젖꼭지였다!

생일 축하합니다! 생일 축하합니다! 사랑하는 OO이~ 생일 축하합니다! 엄마아빠의 서프라이즈 덕분에 나는 울었어요.

Trying to ride a bicycle

I was going shopping with my parents, then I saw a gorgeous vehicle. I told it and get in love with it. My parents had a discussion, for a while, they agreed to buy it and that’s a bicycle. At home, dad is a person who taught me to ride it. Dad held the back of the bicycle for me to ride, I could ride the bike very confident at that moment. But this time that dad forgot me and pull his hand away. I didn’t notice that and crashed to the tree, the result was my head my left wrist got hurt. I needed to wrap my leg with medicine. Maybe the God understood the difficulty of me (or magic cure!), when I recovered from the injury, I could ride the bicycle.

자전거 타기 도전!

엄마 아빠랑 쇼핑하러 가던 길에 정말 멋진 탈것을 봤다. 그게 너무 갖고 싶어 졌고, 결국 부모님이 상의 끝에 사주었다. 바로 자전거였다! 집에 돌아와 아빠가 자전거 타는 법을 가르쳐주었다. 아빠가 뒤에서 자전거를 잡아주어서 나는 자신 있게 탈 수 있었다. 그런데 어느 순간 아빠가 손을 놓았고, 나는 그걸 모르고 나무에 부딪혔다. 머리랑 왼쪽 손목을 다쳤고, 다리에도 약을 발라야 했다. 하지만 나중엔 다 나아서 자전거를 탈 수 있게 됐다. 신이 내 노력을 알아주신 걸까? 아니면 마법처럼 나은 걸까?

My first time to park

When I could walk and run, my parents let me go to the park. Dad wore for me a pair of sport shoes. Then we went to the park. The scene in the park interested me. There were so many children. They were playing around with the slides, swings… but there were also adults, old people playing volleyball, younger ones doing some workouts. I felt so healthy after exercising at the park. I think that I must go to the park one more time!

생애 첫 공원 나들이

걷고 뛸 수 있게 되었을 때, 부모님이 공원에 데려갔다. 아빠가 운동화를 신겨주었고, 우리는 공원으로 출발했다. 공원 풍경은 너무 신기했다. 미끄럼틀과 그네를 타며 노는 아이들이 정말 많았고, 어른들도 있었다. 노인들은 배구를 하고, 젊은이들은 운동을 하고 있었다. 공원에서 뛰어놀고 나서 몸이 아주 건강해진 느낌이 들었다. 여기에 꼭 다시 오겠다고 생각했다.

My younger brother gave birth.

My mom’s belly was just growing bigger and bigger every day. I thought she caught a disease or being sick. Then in one day, mom went to the toilet and vomited out. After that, she was sent to the obstetric hospital. I looked, seemed like she was in a risky situation. Doctors were curing for my mom. When the doctors finished, they smiled and told all of my relationships to get in. Hey! I had a new brother. We willing to have good times and good memories with each other.

남동생이 태어났어요.

엄마 배가 날마다 점점 더 커졌다. 처음엔 엄마가 아픈 줄 알았다. 그러던 어느 날, 엄마가 화장실에 가서 토하더니 병원에 가셨다. 산부인과에 입원하신 거였다. 내가 보기에 위험한 상황 같았는데, 의사 선생님들이 잘 치료해 주셨다. 의사 선생님들이 웃으면서 가족들을 다 들어오라고 하셨다. 그때 나는 남동생이 생겼다는 걸 알았다. 앞으로 우리 둘이 좋은 시간, 좋은 추억을 많이 만들어야지!

Now

I have done all of my final exam test and I felt very confident about my scores. Because we had finished the test, the school made me to do this scrapbook and that’s why I had all of my stories here. After the exam, at the weekend, I could relax and do everything I want. I went to the cinema and that cinema is located in... my room! My parents bought drinks and popcorns, me and my brother chose a film from on the AIC and closed.

지금은

기말고사를 다 치르고 나니 점수에 대해 자신감이 생겼다. 시험이 끝나자 학교에서 이 스크랩북을 만들라고 해서, 여기 이렇게 내 이야기를 가득 담았다. 시험이 끝나서 주말에 푹 쉴 수 있었고, 하고 싶은 건 다 할 수 있었다. 영화관에도 갔다. 그런데 그 영화관은 바로... 내 방! 부모님이 음료수랑 팝콘을 준비해 주셨고, 나랑 동생은 AIC에서 영화를 골라 같이 봤다.

A Holiday

It was summer, and I had 2 months to do whatever I want. Then our family had a discussion and decided that we would go on a holiday. We travelled to Korea and our family did many things there. We went shopping, watching movies, eating… But the thing that I liked most was going to theme park. That park was just looked like Disneyland. We rode on funny roller coasters… I screamed shouting because the ride was just too fun and frightening; we had bought some souvenirs there. We also went to the beach and watched the sunset. That was terrific, friendly and LOVELY!! It was such a good memory that I won’t forget!

여름휴가

여름이었고, 나는 하고 싶은 걸 다 할 수 있는 두 달의 시간이 있었다. 그러던 중 우리 가족은 상의 끝에 휴가를 떠나기로 결정했다. 한국으로 여행을 갔고, 정말 많은 걸 했다. 쇼핑도 하고, 영화도 보고, 맛있는 것도 먹고. 그중 제일 좋았던 건 테마파크에 간 거였다. 그곳은 디즈니랜드 같았다! 거기서 재밌는 롤러코스터도 탔는데, 너무 재미있고 무서워서 소리를 지르며 비명을 질렀다; 그곳에서 기념품도 몇 개 샀다. 또, 바닷가에 가서 석양도 봤다. 정말 멋지고 따뜻하고 사랑스러웠다! 절대 잊지 못할 좋은 추억이다!

I had moved to the primary school. I made new friends and studied with my new teacher.
Day by day passed, it was the time for the final term test.
At that moment, I was just learned, reviewed and repeated to do 6 o’clock, or even midnight.
But practice makes perfect, my scores were high and I were the top students of grade 5.
I got the certificates and parents were really proud of me.
The school finished. I want to relax with my friends and it was really worth it!
* No one will be more handsome than me. (Hahaha!!!)

초등학교 때 전학을 한 적이 있다.
새로운 친구들도 사귀고, 새 선생님과 함께 공부를 시작했다. 하루하루 시간이 흐르더니, 어느덧 학기말 시험 기간이 다가왔다. 그때 매일 아침 6시부터, 늦게는 자정까지 공부하고 복습하기를 반복했다. (동생 부부는 공부하라고 한 적이 없고, 혼자 재밌어하며 했다네요) 하지만 ‘연습은 완벽을 만든다’는 말처럼, 성적이 아주 잘 나왔고, 나는 5학년 최우수 학생 중 한 명이 되었다. 상장도 받았고, 부모님은 정말 자랑스러워하셨다. 초등학교 과정이 모두 끝났다. 이제는 친구들과 마음껏 쉬고 싶다. 그 모든 노력은 정말 값진 시간이었다!
* 나보다 잘생긴 사람은 없을걸. (하하하!!!)
(나는 조카가 태어나서부터 지금까지 늘 World Wide handsome Boy라고 불러왔다. 이게 무의식에 각인됐나. 세상에나, BTS 진보다 내가 먼저, WWH(월와핸)이란 말을 달고 살았다니!!)

Start Secondary School

I got back from the holiday. Like I told you, the holiday was really fun. Two times nearly come back to school, so I was just doing some prepares and revision. When the school opened again, I dressed up really stylish to go to the school. The school started with a ceremony, which included many repertoires. All repertoires were performed by the students in our school, and it was excellent! After that, we had a good lunch with fried chicken, fries, spaghetti. In the afternoon, my teacher allowed me to play anything I want with my friends. I played card games. Finally, I came home and told my parents what I had done in that day. But tomorrow, everything will get back to normal. AHHHHH!!!!

중학교 입학

방학이 끝났다. 방학은 정말 재미있었다. 두 번쯤 학교에 다시 돌아갈 뻔했지만, 준비도 하고 복습도 하면서 기다렸다. 학교가 다시 시작되는 날, 멋지게 차려입고 학교에 갔다. 멋진 입학식으로 학가가 시작됐다. 다양한 공연이 펼쳐졌는데 전부 우리 학교 친구들이 준비한 거였다. 정말 멋졌다! 공연이 끝나고 점심으로 치킨, 감자튀김, 스파게티를 먹었다. 오후에는 선생님이 친구들이랑 하고 싶은 걸 마음껏 하라고 하셔서 카드놀이를 했다. 집에 와서 부모님께 하루 동안 있었던 일을 다 이야기했다.
근데... 내일부터 다시 평소처럼 학교생활 시작이라니... 으아아아아!!!

스크랩북을 넘기며 나는 웃고, 코끝이 찡해지기도 했다.
아이의 말투, 글투, 솔직함, 그리고 귀여운 자신감까지.
이 소중한 기록을, 다시 한번 내 마음속에 오래도록 담아두고 싶었다.
조카의 유년 시절이 얼마나 찬란한지 새삼 느껴졌다.
마음속엔 오래도록 이 따뜻한 페이지들이 머무를 것 같다.

추억이 애니메이션이 된다면, 아마 이런 모습 아닐까. 지브리 스타일로 다시 만난 그 시절 조카와 나.
